臭娘子是南部特有熱帶性植物、落葉樹種。品種取其名是：本身有其特殊的"臭青味" 雖生長快速，骨幹卻易受其環境的乾燥、泠熱、潮濕的影嚮破壞而腐爛！形成天然的白骨化舍利幹而得名！原名為：【臭青仔】現今為追求美其名？故習改為【壽娘子】。

壽娘子的品種在大自然的孕育下，亦繁延出不少的品類：如大葉和中型葉的圓葉厚殼種、卵圓形厚殼種、齒狀薄葉、麝香楓（葉形如楓葉、臭青味特別重）、亦有其異變種"米粒性特小葉" 。因生長快容易造形，葉片厚實有質感、富精神，冬季落葉！白化的枝幹有如雪中景，再有其天然的白骨化舍利幹，容易仿效老相，早期臭娘子盆栽彫刻創作也不在少數！實為盆栽界爭相創作樹種。扦插繁殖容易，生產過量！初齡素材便宜，是初學者的優良創作管理樹種。
